Release Date – 23rd Oct 26
Review by Linda McDermott
Born from the viral Goths in Ungothly Places video series, which has reached millions of viewers across social media, Canadian metalcore band Ungothly Places is bringing its dark humour and gothic style into the music world. Led by Glen Clarke, frontman of 2 Shadows, the project combines heavy music with gothic atmosphere and a larger than life visual identity.
Their debut single, ‘No Shadows,’ arrives on October 23rd via Rock Shop Records, marking the start of a new chapter for Glen and the musicians behind the project. Building on the foundations of 2 Shadows, Ungothly Places is carving out its own identity, blending modern metalcore with industrial influences, electronic elements, and melodic hooks.
Glen explains that the inspiration for ‘No Shadows’ came from a deeply personal experience, with the song taking shape in the heat of the moment.

“‘No Shadows’ is about betrayal in its most raw reactionary form. It’s full of emotion and was written in the heat of the moment following a deeply personal experience. Shortly after returning from tour in 2024, I gathered my touring musicians, and we wrote our first ever song. It came together very quickly and eventually grew into a collaboration with some of my closest friends, including members of The Veer Union.
“Despite being such an aggressive song, I have incredibly fond memories of making it. There was so much laughter, camaraderie, and catharsis throughout the process.
“When I hear the song now, I don’t think about the betrayal anymore. I think about my friends and the amazing experience we shared, bringing so many talented musicians together. Something that began in anger and frustration ultimately became a celebration of friendship and creativity.”
With nearly the entire team behind 2 Shadows involved in the new project, including producer Crispin Earl of The Veer Union, Ungothly Places brings familiar faces together for something new. Dylan Elkin also joins the line-up as the band moves forward into its next chapter.
There’s more to come, with the band’s debut full-length album planned for spring 2027, followed by a North American tour. Live shows will feature new material alongside songs from the 2 Shadows catalogue, giving fans a chance to experience both the history behind the project and what lies ahead.
‘No Shadows’ hits you right from the start, picking you up and refusing to let go. It’s loud, in your face and a full on assault on the eardrums, with a ferocity that hits hard and doesn’t hold back. Packed with angst and emotion, it rages through the track before easing back, only for the aggression to take hold again. You can feel the tension running through it, with the calmer sections bringing a melodic edge before the venom and hate come pouring back in. It’s this constant shift between melody and raw power that makes the song so effective, never letting you settle for too long before hitting you with another wave of intensity. It’s an emotive, hard-hitting track that will appeal to hardcore listeners, and while it might not be for everyone, there’s something strangely addictive about this relentless attack of emotions. I have to admit, I love it.
