Review By Darren McIntyre
The Commoners are a 5 – piece roots / rock outfit from Toronto, Canada who began their journey into the world of music around a decade ago listening to bands like The Black Crowes, Derek Trucks, Marcus King & The Allman Brothers. The boys are a real force of nature with their deep blues filled riffs and powering vocals which sets them apart from the rest, the boys have been touring constantly with support slots and headline tours that has gathered them a whole new legion of fans and I am lucky enough to call these boys friends. Today they release their new single Lost In The Highlights which I will be reviewing for you today.
Lost In The Highlights – The track opens with a real mellow, dark guitar riff that is wrapped in the unmistakable bluesy keys as the most important member Miles Evans- Branagh makes himself known to us. The cool, meaty bassline drops in and really lets the track tell it’s own story as the song bubbles under the surface as Chris unleashes his towering vocals that really bring the track to our attention as we feel the groove wrap itself around us as the boys shift through the gears and really deliver a soulful, bluesy number that welcomes cool backing vocals that add depth and tone to this incredible number. The boys are slowly but surely making their mark in the British Blues Rock scene and if this track is anything to go by we are in for a treat in 2027, the punchy snare kicks allow the rhythm section to control the direction of this kick ass number as we tap our toes and feel the groove deliver a no nonsense beat that is so infectious.
