Review By Halina Wegner
Some bands sound like they mean every single note they play, and Marvin’s Revenge absolutely falls into that camp. Nottingham-based three-piece return with their latest statement, the Offer of Love EP, out October 6th, and it’s a five-track whirlwind that pulls no punches. Dark, jagged, and brimming with intent, this is the sound of a band who know exactly who they are and where they’re heading.
The record kicks off with “Scrape”, the lead single that’s already gained love from John Kennedy (Radio X) and Tom Robinson (BBC 6 Music). It’s a fuzz-laden, grunge-soaked anthem that shows Marvin’s Revenge at their most direct. Live, the track has already become a crowd favourite at places like New Colossus Festival in New York and Focus Wales, and on record it carries the same explosive energy—equal parts menace and melody.
Elsewhere, the EP dives into darker corners without losing its anthemic pull. “Get Married” snarls with biting guitars and a vocal delivery that feels both confrontational and strangely vulnerable. “Coats” offers a slightly moodier, more brooding side, proving the band can stretch their sound without losing that sharp edge. The title track, “Offer of Love”, is drenched in feedback and heavy-psych textures, all wrapped around cryptic lyrics that leave you unsettled in the best possible way. Closing track “Marybeth” pushes their dynamic tension to the limit, shifting from restraint to chaos with precision and intent.
There are echoes of classic grunge throughout—shades of Nirvana and Alice in Chains—but the band also channel the angular bite of the Pixies, blending melody with abrasive power. It’s nostalgic in feel, yet distinctly modern in execution. Marvin’s Revenge doesn’t just recycle sounds of the past; they twist them into something urgent and personal, creating a sonic identity that stands on its own.
Formed in Wirksworth, Derbyshire, and now based in Nottingham, the trio—Luke Eaton (bass/vocals), Job Gregory (drums), and Oliver Sammels-Moore (guitar)—have built a reputation as one of the UK’s most exciting new alt-rock acts. From their debut, Harry’s Redroom, through 2024’s acclaimed VR Porn EP, they’ve steadily carved a path that’s seen them headline across the country, share stages with Heartworms, Ditz, Cloudsurfers, and The Telescopes, and light up festival bills from Tramlines to Y Not.
Offer of Love is both a consolidation and a step forward—tighter, gnarlier, and bristling with confidence. It’s a record that proves Marvin’s Revenge aren’t just making noise for the sake of it; they’re making noise that matters.
