Loz Campbell is back with her second single from the forthcoming second album, and ‘Pieces Of My Heart’ is a world away from the heavy experimental edge of previous release ‘Monster’. This time Campbell delivers a catchy pop-rock earworm with a hint of 21st-century Pat Benatar running through its veins.
There is nothing limp or predictable about this heartbreak song. ‘Pieces Of My Heart’ comes bursting out with infectious guitar riffs, strong melodic vocals and an energy that could probably piece a few broken hearts back together. Campbell doesn’t simply wear her heart on her sleeve; she throws it straight at you.
Fans who remember ‘Back Biting The Bullet’ will recognise that Campbell has a habit of turning heartbreak into something powerful. Once again, the pain has produced one mighty track.
The musical chemistry between Campbell and Tom Gittins of Monochrome Productions continues to grow, with this marking their eighth single together. The production pushes the guitars and rhythm section hard, while guest drummer Laura Moakes helps create a monstrous bridge that gives the song another lift.
With rich guitar layers, husky vocals and an undeniably catchy chorus, ‘Pieces Of My Heart’ proves Campbell continues to evolve. Forget the pieces—she’s turning them into rock and roll.
