Most Poly-Math songs do not have any vocals, but off-stage and in-between tunes onstage, Joe Branton is the voice of this instrumental power quartet.
That’s why I was so glad to meet Branton to discuss the UK-based group’s new LP, Something Deeply Hidden, which will be released April 10 by The Laser’s Edge. The seemingly simple set-up of guitar, bass, drums and keys unleashes complex songs that are in many ways also incredibly digestible and unique from each other. This was admittedly my introduction to the band, and I plan to dig through the band’s discography, but we had a great time talking about the challenges and responsibitliies of a bassist in an instrumental prog quartet.
POLY-MATH will support Something Deeply Hidden with tour dates scattered across the UK and Europe beginning the day of the album’s release, April 10th, running through May 23rd. Ahead of the 16-date excursion, we talked about what the crowds are like at Poly-Math shows and how some venues’ layouts lead to slightly more chaos than others.
