What a thrill to interview my favorite metal singer, John Bush! You know him as the frontman for the iconic Armored Saint and he’ll be doing double vocal duties leading his newest group, Category 7.
Category 7’s eponymous debut is available worldwide via Metal Blade Records and as the title suggests, it will blow you the f*ck away. The band is comprised of metal veterans such as drummer Jason Bittner (Shadows Fall, ex-Overkill), bassist Jack Gibson (Exodus), and guitarists Phil Demmel (ex-Machine Head) and Mike Orlando (Adrenaline Mob). That level of talent requires a singer with who can touch all the bases and touch a nerve without resorting to gimmicks and growls – which is why Bush was the natural choice to front the band.
We talk all about this exciting new music and how it elevates his colorful catalogue (which also includes his time with Anthrax in the 1990s and 2000s).
Additionally, we caught up before Armored Saint took to the EU for the Saints Will Conquer Tour and talked about what’s happening in that band’s camp, including the release of the cover, “One Chain Don’t Make No Prison.”
We also check out some photos I took from a Saint show in May 2024 and strolled down memory lane briefly. It’s a privilege to speak with my favorite metal singer – someone who has been a huge influence for 30 years. Horns Up!!!!
