By Justin Smulison

Crimson Glory, one of the heralded champions of progressive metal, has returned with their first studio LP in 28 years! Released by Bravewords Records, Chasing the Hydra is comprised of nine epic, polished tracks that are reminiscent of the band’s classic, Transcendance, while also finding ways to break new ground – sonically and technically.
Founding guitarist Ben Jackson took some time to speak with Jace Media Contributor Justin Smulison to discuss reaching this milestone, and his amazement and gratitude for the way longtime fans have embraced this comeback and how new audiences are finding the band.
We also discussed how new singer Travis Wills was recruited and how he manages expectations to match the range of original (and dearly departed) singer Midnight while maintaining his own voice and personality.
We also talk about the band’s positive relationship with prior vocalist, Wade Black (who sang on the underrated Astronomica in 1999), and their anticipation of a run of upcoming shows and festivals in the EU over the summer and select festival dates in September in the U.S.
For those who want to hear Chasing the Hydra in all its sonic “glory,” the band will host a free listening party to celebrate the release on June 5 at 1 p.m. EST on Bandcamp. RSVP: https://bravewordsrecords.bandcamp.com/merch/crimson-glory-chasing-the-hydra-listening-party
Jackson and Wills will be on the chat to share stories and answer your questions about Chasing The Hydra.
Song clips: “Chasing the Hydra,” “Beyond the Unknown,” and “Triskaideka.”
