Live Review – Oli Brown and The Dead Collective
Review and Photos by Paul McWilliams

From the moment the lights dropped, there was a shift in the room—something darker, heavier, and undeniably magnetic. Oli Brown and The Dead Collective didn’t so much take to the stage as they consumed it, wrapping the venue in a brooding atmosphere that gripped every single person in attendance from the off.

The lighting alone told a story—moody, shadow-drenched, and cinematic—setting the tone for what would become one of the most emotionally charged live performances you’re likely to witness this year. The anticipation in the crowd was thick, almost tangible, and as the first notes rang out, it was clear this wasn’t going to be just another gig. This was going to be an experience.

Oli Brown’s vocals were nothing short of spellbinding. Raw and beautifully imperfect in all the right places, his voice carried a vulnerability that could break your heart one moment and then, without warning, soar into something fierce and commanding the next. It’s that dynamic shift—from fragile to ferocious—that defines his performance, pulling the audience deeper into his world with every line delivered.

Backing him, The Dead Collective were a force of nature. Tight, deliberate, and dripping with intensity, the band crafted a soundscape that felt vast and cinematic. Each track unfolded like a scene from a dark, art-house film—layered, immersive, and emotionally loaded. There’s a precision to their playing that never sacrifices feeling, and together they create something that feels both meticulously constructed and completely untamed.
The new material hit with real weight. There’s a brooding quality running through it—unsettling at times, but undeniably beautiful. It’s music that challenges you, that sits with you, and refuses to be background noise. Instead, it demands your full attention—and judging by the crowd, that’s exactly what it got. Not a word was wasted in idle chatter; every set of eyes and ears were locked in, hanging on each note as it echoed through the room.

One of the standout moments came in the form of a slow-burning track that gradually built into an overwhelming wall of sound. It started subtly, almost restrained, before swelling into something colossal—layer upon layer of sound crashing together until the entire room seemed to vibrate under its weight. It was a moment of pure sonic release, the kind that sends shivers down your spine and stays with you long after the final note fades.
Oli’s stage presence is a masterclass in restraint and expression. There’s no need for theatrics—his connection to the music does all the talking. Every movement, every glance, every note feels intentional, drawing you in without ever needing to demand attention. You don’t just watch him—you feel what he’s feeling.

The overall vibe of the night was cathartic, haunting, and musically flawless. This wasn’t about singalong anthems or fleeting moments—it was about depth, atmosphere, and emotional honesty. A performance that lingers in your mind, replaying itself long after you’ve left the venue.

Oli Brown and The Dead Collective have crafted something truly special here. And if tonight proved anything, it’s that this project isn’t just evolving—it’s arriving.
