SKÁLD – Dǫkksalir: A Beautiful Journey Into The Dark

French dark folk outfit SKÁLD return with “Dǫkksalir”, the third single from their upcoming album Ørlǫg, and this one takes us somewhere wonderfully dark and mysterious. Due for release on September 25 via Napalm Records, the album sees SKÁLD continuing their journey into ancient Nordic mythology.

Dǫkksalir – Gentle, haunting melodies ripple through the intro as the vocals slowly emerge, creating an enchanting atmosphere that feels almost like a lullaby, but there is something lurking beneath the surface. The layered voices wrap themselves around the arrangement as the beautiful harmonies pull us deeper into this dark underwater world, where the sirens are calling and we know we probably shouldn’t follow.

The instrumentation remains wonderfully atmospheric, allowing the vocals to command the track while subtle percussion and traditional Nordic textures build the tension. There is something genuinely hypnotic here.

This is music that creeps under your skin, pulls you into its spell and leaves you wanting to discover what waits beneath the surface.

SKÁLD have created something beautifully haunting.
