The Cinelli Brothers at the Tuesday Night Music Club, Coulsdon

Arriving at the Tuesday Night Music Club in Coulsdon just before 6 p.m. felt like a smart move, especially since tickets had sold out weeks in advance, and we were eager for good seats. Even then, a line of enthusiastic fans had already formed, with already about fifteen people arriving before us .

The chilly November air did little to dampen the vibe. It also happened to be my birthday, and the greetings—along with birthday cards and gifts from friends in the queue—made the evening feel even more of a celebration Everyone here was united by a shared excitement to see one of the most exhilarating live bands around: The Cinelli Brothers. Judging by the fans quickly lining up behind us and in very few minutes snaking down Coulsdon High Street , many of us had enjoyed their gigs before, but their talent and sheer passion make it hard to ever grow tired of their performances how ever often you see them, with each band member not only singing but playing a variety of instruments. This band is an absolute powerhouse of versatility and talent.

Once the doors opened at 7 p.m., we found our seats, and it wasn’t long before Richard Dunning, the club’s host, took to the stage. Reminding the audience of the club’s no-talking-during-performances rule, he set the stage for the main event. Then, the Cinelli Brothers took their places, Marco Cinelli on keyboards, guitar, and lead vocals; Alessandro Cinelli on drums, bass, and vocals; Tom Julian- Jones on guitar, harmonica, and vocals; and Stephen Giry on bass guitar and vocals. Their first set kicked off with high energy mix of familiar favourites and a couple of new tracks. The Tuesday Night Music Club audience is known for its warmth and enthusiasm, and last night was no exception.

Their support of the band was almost rapturous, with a few fans even managing to squeeze in some dancing despite the lack of floor space, while the rest of us got into it with some classic chair dancing. After a short intermission to refill drinks, the Cinellis were back on stage, treating us to even more music from both their classic and latest albums, along with some songs I hadn’t heard before. One highlight was when each band member switched instruments mid-set, showcasing their multi-instrumental prowess, which is always a crowd-pleaser.

The night concluded with thunderous applause as the audience rose for a standing ovation. After Their encore the audience rose again in appreciation . The band members , who were set to fly to France the next day for a 32-night tour, could have easily packed up and left, yet they were still there when I left 45 minutes after their set finished chatting and mingling with fans. It was a perfect end to my birthday and a memorable night of live music. Big thanks to the band, Derek Pettit on the merch desk, Richard Dunning our host, Mikey on sound, and all the staff behind the bar who kept us refreshed throughout the night. What an unforgettable evening!
