Spread the love

One of my favorite albums from 2024 was The Path Of Decoherence by Advocacy. This under-the-radar prog-metal offering from Denmark was released in January via UPRISING! Records, and I just kept coming back to it.

The band has had some lineup changes since launching in 2015 and Path marks their debut LP.

Rooted in prog-metal, there are elements of jazz and space rock that perfectly complement the lyrical themes based on existentialism, societal issues, and the stormy depths of the human mind. Path would have succeeded as an instrumental album, as it accomplishes the goal of layering several musical styles and complex arrangements without feeling too forced or precise-for-precision’s-sake. But singer Søren Kjeldsen’s pristine, tenor voice elevates Path to help the tracks become soundscapes.

I was so glad to speak with Kjeldsen and bassist Peter Juelsgaard to dive a little deeper into The Path Of Decoherence, and learn more about an album whose title explores the concept of losing information.

Song clips: “Cut Loose,” “Star Formation.”
