Review By Darren McIntyre
Cheap Trick are a hard rock band from Rockford, Illinois, US, who originally formed in 1974 and have given us 21 studio albums and will deliver studio album 22, All Washed Up, on November 14th. The boys dropped their first single, Twelve Gates, a while back and followed that with the pulsating new groover, The Riff That Won’t Quit. Please settle in as I bring this epic single from these Rock n Roll Hall of Famers that will have us reaching for the repeat button for sure.
The Riff That Won’t Quit – From the off, this absolute banger kicks in the doors and gives us a shredding guitar lick that instantly sets the tone for this fist-pumping bruiser. The rhythm section is hitting us with pure, solid snare drum punches that bring bass kicks for company as the boys set out their stall and really sock it to us; the dark, delicious bassline is dropping in and giving us a real sludgy, meaty groove that works so well with this classy rocker vibe. The cool, slick groove flows freely through this real foot-stomping monster as the soaring, gravelly vocals lean in and really give it some fire as the thundering rhythm section controls the groove as the tempo changes pace a little as the funking bassline comes at us kicking and screaming as we welcome back the boys with an epic piece that will have you reaching for the repeat button for sure.
