Review By Darren McIntyre
The Commoners were a 4-piece roots rock outfit from Toronto, Canada. The boys began their journey into the world of music around a decade ago listening to bands like The Black Crowes, Derek Trucks, Marcus King & The Allman Brothers. The boys are a real force of nature with their deep blues-filled riffs and powering vocals that really set them apart from the rest. They decided to bring in ‘in his own words, the most important member of the band’ – Miles Evans-Branagh – to fill the void that the Hammond-style keys bring to this outfit. The boys have been busy touring and writing in between their busy schedule, and they give us their stunning single, Too Soon To Know You. These boys are something special and I am glad to say they are also friends, which is just awesome. fast forward to now and the boys deliver their stunning new offering Just Watch Me. Please ready yourselves as I walk us through this fantastic new offering from these boys from Toronto, Canada.
Just Watch Me – Continuing where we left off as the boys hit us with a sizzling, crisp guitar riff that lets the rhythm section come at us with a solid snare drum beat as the bass kick lets the groove flow freely through the intro. The soulful, husky vocals as Chris opens the door and really hits us with a colossal tone that really lets these boys express themselves; the cool piano tones are littered throughout the track and switch between Hammond-style tones and killer piano tinkles as this epic arrangement really delivers a rasping, bluesy groove that tells us the boys are firing on all cylinders with this awesome piece of music. The whole track is just a joy from start to finish as we get that rasping, southern, bluesy tone that is just oozing from the boys as a cool bassline drops in and wraps itself around this colossal tune as it drops dark, delicious grooves that really allow the track the room it needs to sizzle and build as the boys just shift through the gears and really tell us what they are all about.
