PleaseSpencer Mackenzie is a Juno nominated, Maple Blues Award Winning singer / songwriter from Southern Ontario who has steadily earned accolades and attention from Blues aficianado’s from around the world. For nearly a decade Spencer has been writing, recording true blues and showcasing the raw emotion, honesty that the genre demands. Spencer’s high energy captivating performances is one that grabs audiences that has seen him tour Canada, Europe & the US and perform with the likes of Walter Trout, Fantastic Negrito, Samantha Fish & Jesse Dayton, Spencer has been hard at work in the studio putting the finishing touches to his new album Empty Chairs slated for release Feb 20th, 2026. I reviewed the first single What You Do a few weeks back and follow that with the blistering blues-riffed groover Shoot Me Down, please grab a cold one as I navigate us through this fantastic new offering.

Shoot Me Down – A rasping, gritty, blues-soaked guitar riff erupts from the off as the punchy snare drum rolls ease into the arrangement as the track builds and builds. The gravelly, melodic vocals kick in the doors and let us have it both barrels as this real sludgy blues monster grabs our attention; the killer Hammond-style keys just wrap themselves around the whole track as we feel the energy pouring from the boys as they give us a real banger of a track that just gets better and better with every note that comes our way. The slick, crisp, gritty guitar licks are allowing the track to breathe as the full-on bassline drops in with dark, delicious grooves that give the track depth, swagger and a real ballsy tone that is unreal. The cool backing vocals really let the composition tell its own story as Spencer cuts loose and just socks it to us with this killer track that will have you reaching for the repeat button for sure.
