Review By Darren McIntyre
Lucia Cifarelli is a singer/songwriter from Long Island, New York, who is best known for her work with the industrial band KMFDM; she is formerly the vocalist for the band DRILL. Drill released 1 album, and this allowed them to tour with Wither, Blister, Burn & Peel, unfortunately breaking up shortly after the tour finished. Cifarelli joined the KDFDM hiatus band KMFMK in 2000, with the project lasting 1 self-titled album, but soon after the band was discontinued, Cifarelli was asked to join KDFDM, and she has been a member since 2002. Lucia has given us 12 studio albums and 3 solo albums, and today she brings us her fantastic new single, Girls Like Me, which I will be reviewing for you today.
Girls Like Me – The pounding sampler grooves erupt from the intro as a funking drum section drives the track onwards as Lucia comes in with her incredible vocals to really get the juices flowing. The electro-industrial beat is a thumping, dark, brooding tone that lets the synth notes linger as the track builds and builds; the haunting synth tones are flowing freely through the track as they weave their way through the punchy drum beast. The melodic, soaring vocals are really powering through this fantastic offering, and it gives you a real Blade-like vibe from the opening credits of the movie – not a bad credit, imho. The pounding groove is fast, furious, in your face and really gets your feet moving with its intense tones, funky beats and killer vocals that just let the track flow.
