Review By Callum and Gary Roebuck
Yaang—remember the word “YAANG”—delivered an astonishing 7-song set to get the Oran
The audience warmed up for the headliners, IST IST.
The electro trio from Manchester formed in 2017, were certainly somewhat different to most
support bands I’ve witnessed it, and they are on the up with their mix of rock, funk, electro, Brit
Pop and ska were thrown in during a 35-minute energy-sapping set.
Kicking off with “Comfort”, Davey is the eccentric showman throwing shapes throughout
reminiscent of such past frontmen like Steven Tyler, Jarvis Cocker and certainly a very Brit
pop vibe throughout.

We were in for a rollercoaster of a ride. “Speed McQueen” followed as the set certainly sped
along, “I am Letch” opened with Davey now minus his trench coat delivering another
The astonishing vocal before ‘Deadbeat’ kept the momentum up mid-set.
A “fuck yeah” from an audience member before “Airport bar Fight” with Ollie on guitar
leading vocals the audience had grown somewhat from the opener with the younger
clientele dancing around before the highlight of the set, which were the statue poses mid-song from
Ollie, Ben, and Davey—how they carried this off without laughing was amazing.
The penultimate tune, “Till morning Light”, will stay with us for more morning lights, the set closer
“Horsepower is God” was delivered in moody and raucous fashion; we finished with a
crescendo of noise as Davey left the stage to Ollie and Ben.

Young and older in the audience had been engrossed by the energy of this Mancunian trio
and watch out, the future is bright for Yaang, vocal distribution between both Davey and Ollie
With Ben backing, they gave a different vibe throughout and showed what they could do.
Mention must be made of Davey rubbing his behind, which was caught on camera and was
alluded to as I spoke to him after the set—watch out for the photo evidence, also due to this
Being the maiden gig north of the border, Davey did deliver, “I just went for it.”
You sure did, and you sure did, as your first Scottish gig has been delivered. Please don’t
leave the masses who had gathered to see you tonight waiting, especially with the adoration
as your set ended due in part, I’d say, to the fact Ollie has Scottish connections.
Until the next time—Adios, Gazza. ✌
