Review By Darren McIntyre
The Midnight Cowgirls are a powerhouse feminine collective poised to revolutionise the music scene with their electrifying blend of country / rock / metal / post-punk & rockabilly. Their fresh sound defies genre conventions, seamlessly blending twangy guitars with pulsating bass lines & driving rhythms. The band spent the summer of 2024 opening for rockabilly legends The Stray Cats and were invited to open for Rock & Roll Hall of Famer Jack White and Eagles of Death Metal & most recently performed alongside First Lady of Outlaw Country Nikki Lane. The girls come at us with their latest release, Born Ready, which I will be reviewing for you today.
Born Ready – The track comes at us with a shredding guitar riff that is joined by a pounding rhythm section that really lets the track breathe as we get to grips with this kick-ass outfit. The soaring vocals are lifting the track to really let us feel the rawness, energy and swagger rolling through this foot-stomping, rockabilly bruiser as we throw our fists in the air to celebrate this barnstorming arrangement. The slick, crisp guitar licks are oozing through the track as we get a sultry, dark, delicious bassline to bring this killer piece together. The musicianship is just awesome, as the girls really kick in the doors and give it to us straight with a no-nonsense song that really tells us what these girls are all about. The swirling toe-tapping groove really grabs our attention as the tone comes at us kicking and screaming as the girls ramp up the groove and really sock it to us. This is not your ordinary country-infused band; this is a collective that is grabbing our attention and telling us to watch out as they destroy everything in their path with a really infectious song that adds a little honky-tonk blues with a mighty piano tone that just elevates the composition to another level as the girls lay themselves bare and tell us to watch this space.
