Thrash Metal
Back On Black Records
Release Date – May 15th 2026
It’s been seven long years since Harrogate’s Acid Reign gave us a new record. Still keeping the flame burning is sole original, singer H along with his erstwhile bass playing companion since 2015 Pete Dee. Hard to believe that a band formed around 1987 and this is only their fourth full length album.

‘The Who Of You’ has a creepy start before they offer up some power chords then rip into a violent assault led by guitarist Matt Smith’s razor-sharp guitar and the rhythmic battering from Dee and drummer Jonny Grimley. What fabulous start, pure old school thrash – no messing! They keep up the intensity on the title track which comes across as a bit more hardcore as does ‘No Truth’. ‘Conniption King’ brings more old school thrash that has a proper bounce and a catchy chorus then ‘Alonely’ absolutely races along on a spidery riff and massive groove which is perfect to throw your horns to. Jeez things get even quicker on ‘Blind Lies’ which is just relentless with H telling you about yourself before the punk/metal of ‘Sorrowsworn’ and the old school metal of ‘Old Young Man’. Its back to the thrash on ‘Fantastic Passion’ where H is back to his abrupt self before the final track and a bit of a departure from all the vicious aggression – ‘Centre Of Everything’ shows a different side of H’s voice before they crank it up and give us a proper lesson in UK heavy metal.
Welcome back Acid Reign. Fast, powerful, aggressive with some big expensive riffs and superb lead breaks. The grooves get you moving and H’s voice has lost none of its bite or power. Yep, the best thing they’ve done, and it sounds awesome too.
