Reaching ‘Infinity’ with Midnight Rider

I was so delighted to see that Chris Black of the US high-energy rock band High Spirits had joined German heavy rock outfit Midnight Rider. I was a fan of the latter as well, having loved their third LP, Beyond the Blood Red Horizon, and the band’s founder, Blumi, who was also the driving force behind Metal Inquisitor.

With this new lineup, this reinvigorated group has released Limited Infinity via Massacre Records. The album successfully maintains the essence of their late-70s rock and metal influences while also reaching new sonic depths and vocal ranges. Black’s voice is cleaner than his predecessor, adding a new dimension to the lead vocals and at times, some space rock riffing. The new collaboration between Blumi and Black also explores lyrical themes of attitude, the self, history and our place in the universe.

It’s a fun listen and I had an equally outstanding time reconnecting with Black and meeting Blumi to discuss their decades-long history and friendship, the killer grooves on the album and why the band’s future is looking so bright. Please enjoy!
