There is something seriously impressive about Mason Hill right now. With every song they release, the band seem to get better, sharper and more confident, and “Hurricane” is perhaps the clearest evidence yet that their best days are still ahead of them.
Searing from the opening moments, “Hurricane” delivers the kind of hard-hitting rock Mason Hill have built their reputation on, but there is an added sense of maturity and refinement running through this latest offering. The guitars hit with purpose, the rhythm section drives relentlessly forward and the vocals bring an urgency that makes the whole track impossible to ignore.
This is a band that has earned its place the hard way. Ten years of false starts, difficult record deals, a six-year gap between releases, the pandemic and the departure of former vocalist Scott Taylor could easily have ended Mason Hill. Instead, they have turned adversity into fuel.
That determination is audible in “Hurricane”. Rather than attempting to recreate their past, Mason Hill have embraced where they are now, creating music that feels fiercer, hungrier and more assured.
The single offers an exciting preview of World So Wonderful, their forthcoming album recorded with Dan Weller. If this track represents the next stage of the Mason Hill evolution, then October cannot come quickly enough.
What stands out most is just how good this band have become. Every release seems to raise the bar, and “Hurricane” is another step forward. Mason Hill are no longer simply proving they can survive—they are proving they can thrive.
After everything they have faced, this sounds like a band finally ready to claim what is theirs. Mason Hill are back, and they sound better than ever.
