Cinema Stereo arrive with “Expectations,” a single that feels like a snapshot of ambition, uncertainty and the emotional chaos of trying to work out where life is taking you. It is an intriguing introduction to the Nashville-based trio and a strong taste of their forthcoming debut album, 12:34.
Produced by acclaimed Nashville producer Paul Moak, the track demonstrates a band unafraid to blend atmosphere with melody. Shimmering guitars, layered harmonies, synth textures and infectious hooks create a sound that feels expansive without losing its emotional centre. There is a polished quality to the production, but Cinema Stereo retain enough rawness to make the song feel personal rather than manufactured.
“Expectations” sits comfortably within the themes surrounding 12:34, exploring growing up, chasing dreams, self-doubt, relationships and the search for clarity. What makes Cinema Stereo particularly interesting is their ability to turn those universal experiences into something that feels cinematic and distinctly their own.
Originally from Orlando and now based in Nashville, the trio have steadily developed a reputation for honest songwriting and captivating live performances. Their influences—from Queen and The Police to Cheap Trick, Aerosmith and The Killers—suggest a band comfortable crossing musical boundaries, and that adventurous spirit comes through clearly here.
Ian Rayha, Seb Borysek and Jeffrey Lageveen sound like musicians who understand that a great song needs both atmosphere and substance. “Expectations” delivers both, constantly shifting while maintaining a strong melodic pull.
With 12:34 set to introduce Cinema Stereo to a much wider audience, this is a promising opening statement. Their first UK and European headline tour later this year should provide the perfect opportunity to discover whether the cinematic ambition of the recordings translates to the stage.
If “Expectations” is anything to go by, Cinema Stereo are only just getting started.
