REVIEWER – GRAEME WRIGHT
Fury have been around since 2010 and have had more than a few changes to their line-up over the years. Their last album ‘Born To Sin’ was excellent, and I had high hopes for this one after after hearing the first single and title track ‘Interceptor’, which was a balls-to-the-wall high energy Hard Rock masterpiece and undoubtedly one of the songs of the year so far. The most intriguing addition to the band since the last album is the addition of a second vocalist Niyah Ifill, who has added a further touch of class to the proceedings. This has meant that while the band have always made no secret of their love for the likes of Motörhead, Iron Maiden and Metallica you can now add a hint of prime Fleetwood Mac to that list because these songs are that good.

The album starts with the aforementioned ‘Interceptor’ which flies out of the traps with such pace, power and aggression that the only concern I had was that it simply wouldn’t be possible for the rest of the album to match this monster of a song. One area where the band perhaps don’t receive enough credit is within the actual complexity of their compositions, as well as the intelligence and introspection sometimes found in their lyrics. Never more so than with the second track on the album, ‘What’s It Gonna Be’. The addition of a second vocalist, (and a female one to boot) has really allowed this band to spread their wings and this fantastic piece of Heavy Rock (with a touch of Blues thrown in for good measure) deserves every ounce of praise it’s surely going to receive.
‘On The Town’ is another intense and immediate slab of molten vinyl with a vocal game of pass the parcel in the middle that really impresses, while ‘Don’t Lie To Me’ is a foot stomping, hand clapping banger that gave me a big stupid grin across my face the very first time I heard it. ‘In Pursuit Of Destiny’ reminded me of Fleetwood Mac before it turns up the power with a huge bass line and thunderous drum sound, ably supporting the superlative guitar and vocal work. ‘Can’t Resist (Gimme What I Need)’ is an epic grinder of a tune while ‘Walk Away’ changes the pace with a Western movie sounding plaintive and heartfelt vocal, exquisite guitar work and more than a touch of the Bon Jovi classic ‘ Wanted Dead Or Alive’ about it. A truly great song and my favourite across the entire album.
‘Look At Us Now’ picks up the baton again with another pulse pounding pacy crowd pleaser and ‘DTR’ is a big riff-lead party song which I’m looking forward to hearing live in the near future. ‘Undistilled’ closes the album and it’s a near six minute guitar driven ballad (or as close to a ballad as you’ll get from Fury) and it’s another truly great song, just one of many highlights from this album. Honestly, I’m running out of superlatives, this is simply one of the very best Hard Rock records of the year and you owe it to yourself to pick up a copy when it’s released in September.
