Evil Scarecrow release new single “The Future Machine”

Evil Scarecrow – A Playful Glimpse into The Future Machine

Review By Kirsty and Alastair

As new listeners to this band, we weren’t entirely sure what to expect, but with a name like Evil Scarecrow, we assumed it wasn’t going to be folk music. This band sits at the heavier end of the rock spectrum: loud guitars, solid drums, and a heavy vocal are definitely in our wheelhouse.

The opening bars remind me of Ratt’s Round and Round — but heavier — with a sense of ’80s hair/metal rock. The lyrics are dystopian in nature, while also making reference to Rocky! The song suggests that by feeding the machine data from the 1980s, it is preparing it to predict humanity’s future. In parody style, the lyrics are tongue-in-cheek — something we have now come to learn is typical of Evil Scarecrow.

All that said, we like this song a lot. The chorus is suitably repetitive and easy to pick up, making it perfect for a singalong (and we do love a singalong!). It’s very much a track you could bounce to at a gig or festival.

The guitar solo in the bridge was anthemic and uplifting. We particularly enjoyed the unexpected harpsichord section in the middle. The rhythmic drums and shouts of “Hey!” at the end of the bridge would undoubtedly encourage a crowd to join in during a live performance.

Based on this song, I’d be keen to explore more of the band’s music with a view to seeing them live. Keep an eye out for their new album, due for release in October 2025, and for their tour dates at the end of this year.
