Slyder Smith – Riffs, grit, and raw honesty: Slyder Smith’s shout for connection.

Single – Nobody’s Listening

Release Date – 15th August 25

Review by Linda McDermott

Slyder Smith has been part of the UK rock scene since the ’90s when he made his name as guitarist and backing vocalist with cult power-pop outfit Last Great Dreamers. The Dreamers picked up a Kerrang! Best New Band nomination back in 1995, toured with the likes of The Quireboys and The Wildhearts, and after reforming in 2015, went on to release three more albums and a live record.

When Covid put the brakes on live music, Slyder turned his focus to writing, exploring new sounds that led to the debut album Charm Offensive with his band The Oblivion Kids in 2022. That record earned him high praise and marked him out as more than just a guitarist stepping out on his own.

Fast forward to 15th August 2025, and Slyder is back with a new single “Nobody’s Listening”. It’s a gritty, melodic track with riffs sharp enough to cut through the noise and vocals that carry a raw, melancholy edge. Produced by Robin Wynn Evans (Manic Street Preachers, The View, Dodgy), it pushes Slyder’s sound into bolder territory while staying true to his knack for hooks and heart.

Slyder describes the song as being about those moments where you’re shouting to be heard but the world’s too busy to notice. With phones, filters, and fast living pulling people in every direction, “Nobody’s Listening” feels like a call for connection. It isn’t just a song, it’s a rebel yell for everyone who’s ever been ghosted, ignored, or left unheard.

It’s a melodic number that doesn’t need to smash you over the head to get its point across. It’s Slyder quietly urging us to step away from the distractions for a moment, letting the message sink in without any drama. The steady beat keeps things flowing, and his vocals tie it all together, smooth enough to pull you in, but with just enough grit to stop it being too polished. By the end, you’re left tapping along and secretly hoping someone finally puts their phone down long enough to actually listen.

Backed by Brian Kerr on bass and Adam McNaughton on drums, this release is the first step towards a new album due in 2026. Until then, “Nobody’s Listening” stands as a reminder that Slyder’s still got plenty to say, and this time, you’ll want to be listening.
