Heavy Pettin – Line In The Sand – Single Review – duffpress

Review By Darren McIntyre

Heavy Pettin are a 5 – piece rock and roll outfit originally formed in 1981 who take their name from UFO’s 1976 album No Heavy Petting. The boys debuted at a show supporting Cuban Heels @ HMV Megastore in Glasgow. The boys would go on to support heavyweights KISS & Ozzy Osbourne. The boys have given us Heavy Pettin / Lettin Loose in 1983, Rock Ain’t Dead in 1985 & Big Bang in 1989. Fast forward to 2025 with lineupchanges and a lot of hard graft; the boys return with their blistering new album, Rock Generation, slated for release on 24th Oct. To whet our appetites, the guys bring us their fantastic new single, Line In The Sand, which I will be reviewing for you today.

Line In The Sand – A mellow, cool guitar lick flows effortlessly through the intro before the doors are kicked in, and boom, off we go with a real sludgy, gritty groove that lets us know that the boys are back. The soaring, raspy vocals from Hamie ripple through the track and really let the track grow as a funking low end leans in and wraps itself around this really groovy track. The cool backing vocals add depth to the track as the boys shift through the gears and really hit the ground running with the ready, gutsy bruiser that is a real return to form for the guys. There are some real cracking melodies running through the track, and as you can tell, they had a lot of fun recording this classy, punchy monster that just keeps building and building. There are some real likenesses to Def Leppard, Whitesnake & Thin Lizzy, but I am sure the boys will take the plaudits from rock titans and roll with it. I, for one, cannot wait for the new album to drop, as I am sure I speak for many and say that it will be a welcome back from the original Glaswegian Whippersnappers.
