Review By Darren McIntyre
John ‘The Mayor’ Corabi is a rock ‘n’ roll frontman who has brought his vocal talents to some of the world’s most iconic bands as he lets his charm and charisma ooze from the very first note to the very last. John has assembled a who’s who of musicians to bring us the best sound possible for his first full-length debut solo album, New Day, slated for release on 24th April, and to coincide with the release, John is heading out on a European tour to bring us a collection of his back catalogue as well as new material from this killer slab of rock ‘n’ roll. From the album comes the single When I Was Young, which I will be reviewing for you today, so please sit back, grab a cold one and get ready to be mesmerised by this awesome new track.
When I Was Young – Acoustic strumming chords ripple through the intro as a cool, mellow bassline lets the groove wrap itself around us as this toe-tapping bruiser comes at us. John leans in with his incredible, gravelly vocals that suit the arrangement perfectly as the boys bring the heat as the pounding bass kicks in and the snare punches take the track onwards. The whole composition instantly puts a smile on your face as the track just builds and builds as the mellow guitar licks ease their way through the track as the boys give us a stellar arrangement that just tells us that John is back with a bang and then some. The sweet, crisp guitar solo just elevates the track somewhat as it brings melodic tones that let this awesome number unfold and hit us with all it has; the boys are digging deep and telling their story as the foot-stomping groove grabs a hold of us and lets us have it both barrels for sure. The melodies, lyrics and musicality just carry the song onwards and let us know we are in for a treat when John & the boys hit Glasgow on the 13th February. Do yourself a favour and come check out my buddy and his pals.
