Review By Glen Parkes
There is no shortage of thrash metal bands emerging from the UK underground, but Imperium continue to prove they have the talent, attitude and determination to rise above the pack. Their latest single, “Tread The Serpent,” featuring the unmistakable growl of Tony Dolan, is a blistering statement of intent ahead of the release of their debut album Exodus Unknown.
From the opening riff, Tread The Serpent wastes no time. Razor-sharp guitars tear through the speakers with relentless precision, backed by thunderous drumming and a bass tone that keeps the track driving forward with unstoppable momentum. The production from Oz Craggs captures the raw aggression of the band’s live performances while delivering a modern, crushing sound that never sacrifices clarity.
The vocal performance is equally commanding. Imperium attack every verse with conviction, while Tony Dolan’s guest appearance adds genuine pedigree rather than feeling like a gimmick. His snarling delivery blends seamlessly with the band’s own ferocious style, elevating the song without overshadowing it. It feels like a meeting of generations, with old-school thrash spirit fuelling a new wave of British metal.
Lyrically, Tread The Serpent carries the defiant attitude that has always been at the heart of thrash. The song is packed with venom, rage and determination, matching its relentless musical assault from beginning to end. What makes this single particularly exciting is how naturally everything comes together. The riffs are memorable, the solos are explosive without becoming self-indulgent, and the rhythm section provides a rock-solid foundation that never lets the intensity drop.
Having already built a formidable reputation on the UK live circuit, Imperium sound like a band ready to make the leap onto a much bigger stage. Tread The Serpent is fast, furious and unapologetically heavy—a thrilling slice of modern thrash that honours the genre’s roots while confidently forging its own identity.
