Review By Darren McIntyre
Revenant are a 4-piece rock ‘n’ roll juggernaut from Newbury, UK, who were formed in 2023; the boys brought us their blistering debut EP, What A Time To Be Alive, in 2024. The boys have a busy year ahead and bring us their follow-up EP, Best Medicine, and this will see them showcase some new tracks at Maid Of Stone Festival, Quarantune Rocks & Steel Paws, along with a smattering of shows all around the country. The boys gave us the singles Best Medicine & Runaway Rage and followed that with their epic new offering, Black Dogs & Sad Men, which I will be reviewing for you today.
Black Dogs & Sad Men – The track opens with a mellow guitar pick that brings the heat as the rhythm section chimes in with a real solid snare drum groove that lets the bass kicks control the track as it unfolds in front of us. The gravelly, soulful vocals come at us and really allow the track to deliver a well-thought-out fist-pumping riff that just gets the juices flowing. The crisp guitar riffs are giving the track depth, swagger and a real attitude as the boys expand their minds in this full-on rock ‘n’ roll bruiser that instantly puts a smile on your face. The commanding rhythm section is letting the track grow as the slick guitar licks are kicking in the doors and letting this grungy, rockin’ monster take us to somewhere new as the boys really dig deep and bring us a melodic bruiser that ticks all the boxes as they give us a melodic arrangement that leaves us wanting more from this electrifying 4-piece.
