Preludio Ancestral are a new name to me even though they’ve been around for twenty years. The project was founded by main man/brain guitarist Leonardo Gatti who also provides bass, keyboards and orchestrations. He did have some help from Juan Pablo Kilberg (guitars and choirs), Jackson Harwood and Cole Maverick Turner (Vocals and choirs) and Martin De Pas (drums). I will admit that I approached this with a degree of scepticism because most of these one-man band things I have reviewed in the past have been terrible. This however is world class!

Blades Of The Burning Sky’ tears into it straight away with a wonderful spidery riff and pounding drums before the masculine voice of either Harwood or Turner comes bursting out with power and passion straight out of the Primal Fear/Helloween book and this is just the first track! Talk about set your stall out early. ‘Riders Of The Crimson Storm’ is a proper power metal banger that rattles along at a rate of knots and would get the heads banging and fists pumping. Crikey the vocals are awesome on this along with some stunning guitar work. Things ease up on the intro to ‘The Shadow Throne’ which crunches along on some dual guitar harmonies before the acoustic comes out for the verse. It’s a stop start riff over another superb vocal that raises the hairs on your arms and neck. Talk about powerful and melodic! There’s one thing I love about this Power Metal genre is that the bands are not afraid to go into the fantasy realm so here comes ‘Flame Of The Eternal Dragon’ which is just screaming out for some cosplay. Oh boy, the vocals and the choirs on this are mind blowing. A bright piano and some huge voices open ‘The Storm Of A Thousand Wings’ before the chunky riff and stabbing keys come in and off we go on another fantasy epic. Synth strings open the melodic rock of ‘The Sorceress Of My Heart’ which has a real Euro metal feel and is a surefire hit! We head to the Celtic lands for the passionate ‘Rise Of The Golden Flame’ and whoever plays the solos on this must have six fingers on their left hand. ‘’Vengeance Of The Dragonheart’ is another power metal epic where the singers show their range and those fleet fingered six stringers show their chops again. It’s an epic start for ‘Crown Of The Rising Sun’ as it rattles along on another fist pumper before ‘The Last Stand Of Light’ which is a rapid call to arms then we get some proper metal with ‘Forged In The Skyfire’. Its back to the Celts for the closing anthem ‘Twilight Of The Hero’.

I seriously do not have a vocabulary adequate enough to explain just how fuckin’ good this album is. Every track is a winner – there’s no filler! I would say that every note, every drumbeat and every vocal line has been thought out precisely. It’s sharp and exact but has feeling and passion in every second. I cannot recommend this highly enough. Simply superb doesn’t do it justice. It’s more than that. Buy it and I’m sure you will agree.
