Review By Darren McIntyre
Malvada are a 4-piece rock band from Brazil who originally formed in 2020 and decided they wanted to change the face of rock ‘n’ roll in Brazil. During the pandemic, the band quickly stood out as one of the great revelations of Brazilian rock; 2022 & 2023 saw the girls tour Brazil with more than 100 shows and participation in festivals like Rock In Rio, Best Of Blues & Rock, Angra Fest & Chama Rock, sharing the stage with the likes of Pitty, Angra, Extreme & Tom Morello. 2023 sees the girls sign with Frontiersmusicsrl, and 2025 lets the girls bring us their self-titled debut album and tour with the likes of Michael Schenker. Today the girls drop their infectious, gritty new single RNR Girl, which I will be reviewing for you today.
RNR Girl – The track kicks off with a real dirty, sludgy guitar riff that has a pounding rhythm section for company as the girls set out their stall and hit us with a real banger of a track. The smouldering, gravelly vocals really grab our attention as the girls hit the ground running as they shift through the gears and really hit us with a fast, furious groove that gets the juices flowing; the funky, meaty bassline drops in with a dark, sultry groove that lets us know that the girls mean business. The solid snare / bass kicks allow the rhythm section to control the direction of this kick-ass track as the girls really dig deep and let their musicality lead the way as we feel the energy oozing from every member of the band. The mesmerising solo that runs freely through the track just elevates the track somewhat as the groove wraps itself around us and lets the girls tell their own story with this dark, moody piece that will have us reaching for the repeat button for sure.
