Single – Flood
Release Date – 30th June 26
Review by Linda McDermott

To Nowhere are an alt-rock/alt-grunge band from Newcastle in the Northeast of England who first caught my attention with the release of their debut track Low back in 2021. Packed with energy and grit, it immediately showed what the band were all about. Since then, and despite a few line-up changes, the five-piece have continued to develop a sound that’s very much their own, drawing inspiration from Alice in Chains, Bring Me The Horizon, Bad Omens and Rage Against the Machine to create a blend of heavy riffs, driving rhythms and raw emotion.
Flood is the band’s second single since their impressive 2024 EP Violent Kicks & Dirty Tricks, and once again they’ve delivered a track that reminds me exactly why they’ve remained firmly on my radar.
Flood explores the crushing effects of isolation and fractured relationships, and the band have captured those emotions brilliantly. The song takes you on that journey right from the start, with virtually no musical intro before Robbie’s distinctive vocals enter and unleash the emotional lyrics.
What starts out as shutting out the world to make life easier soon becomes a prison of its own making, with feelings of anger, desperation and abandonment running throughout. The music adds emotional weight to the inner turmoil as it ebbs and flows around the vocals and harmonies, building an urgency that makes you feel the overwhelming mental crisis at the heart of the song. As the story unfolds, you get a real sense of just how supercharged the lyrics have become.
Everything builds towards a powerful chorus where all those emotions finally spill over before the release quietens the turmoil with the words “if I’m at the edge of the world then I’ll figure it out.” The more you listen to the song, the more it resonates. Musically and lyrically, Flood is exceptional.
For such a young band, they’ve found a niche that deserves to be supported on the grassroots scene. Having seen the guys play live numerous times, I know the energy they bring to the stage, and it’s great to hear that same intensity coming across on this single.
To Nowhere will perform ‘Flood’ at Think Tank in Newcastle, where they will be supporting Tropic Gold and Banks Arcade on the 30th June date. Be there to hear it!
