“End of Us” At Last Review

Review By Josh Jones

End of Us is a highly anticipated album, being TX2’s debut album after a whole decade of building popularity on social media and releasing only singles, which on their own racked up millions of streams, so it is safe to say I listened to this album with high hopes!

The album itself takes you on a journey, with each song carrying a different atmosphere, from a vampiric gothic castle in Nice Guy to running across a desert in an old western film in 6 Shots Left. Musically it is amazing; it blends multiple genres of music not usually found together, allowing a fresh perspective on Alt-rock, allowing it to stand amongst other artists in terms of music genre conventions, whilst being able to stand out on its own due to the unique style of TX2’s music. I feel the final song, “The End of Us”, does an effective job of tying the entire album together, a slow, melodic almost ballad, allowing for a lasting impact on those who I bet will binge this album all the way through as soon as it releases. Truly a perfect portrayal of the 10 years of work that has been put into the creation of this album, and a nice tying off to the diverse style of music used throughout.

Lyrically, Timothy Thomas’ vocals are core to the style of this band’s music, bringing an interesting style and texture throughout the album in all their songs. I especially like his fry screams when a song hits a breakdown, allowing for a raw release of emotion felt by anyone who listens, really bringing the feel of the song together. I must say, however, that the lyrics are quite on the nose, but that is really what you want when you want to put out a clear message to your listeners about all the wrongdoings that are currently occurring in the world. I quite like how throughout the album, Thomas speaks about political conflict and conflict in his own personal relationships, allowing for a rallying aggressive song for those who are angry at the world and a reflective song for those who are angry at their own failures in love, showing that this album is nice and diverse in terms of topic.

Overall, this is an amazing debut album, effectively showing where all those 10 years have gone in terms of music production. It shows a great experimentation of musical sound whilst also staying true to what they originally intended to make, appealing to rockers old school and new, and for that I deem this album a great success. Hopefully this will give TX2 a great push in terms of popularity to make them even more well known amongst Alt-rockers across the world and hopefully allow a bigger platform to allow Thomas to campaign for LGBTQ+ rights and spread mental health awareness.
