Review By Smudge Smith
Well, crikey. Prong have been around since 1986, and this is only their second live album. Their first was ‘100% Live’ released in 2002 which is when Tommy Victor decided to resurrect the Prong name after throwing his lot in With Danzig for a few years. Didn’t do him any harm and Prong have releasing high quality heavy groove metal ever since.
The tracks on this were recorded over July and August 2025 during a European tour where they played Wacken, the Alcatraz festival in Belgium, the iconic (it says here) Colos-Saal in Aschaffenburg and a club in Nuremburg. The tour was celebrating 31 years of ‘The Cleansing’ album plus there are a couple of bonus tracks that didn’t actually make the album, so it’s proper authentic.
If you’ve ever seen Prong live, then you will it’s the aural equivalent of being punched upside the head for an hour or so. They have now put that aural beating onto tape so you can get smacked around in the comfort of your own home. Nice! They open with the monumental ‘Revenge Best Served Cold’ before they slide seamlessly into the punk/metal of ‘Inheritance’ and ‘The Descent’ which is fast and heavy. We get some public service speech before ‘One Outnumbered’ which is slower and groovier before feedback introduces ‘No Question’ as they ride off on another massive groove and Victor pinches the life out of his harmonics. ‘Sublime’ is basic and punchy then drummer Tyler Joseph rattles out a steady beat before Victor croons over his squally guitar, and he is soon joined by bassist/singer Christopher Dean (nope-not that one) and they sludge their way through ‘Not Of This Earth’ for over 8 minutes. ‘Home Rule’ brings some darker alt metal before the chug fest of ‘Ultimate Authority’ which kicks you square in the bollocks and sets you up for the classic ‘Snap Your Fingers, Snap Your Neck’. We get the crowd chanting at the beginning of ‘However It May End’ which absolutely crushes.
Now for the bonus tracks that didn’t make the actual album. ‘Out Of This Misery’ is sharp and nasty then ‘Corpus Delecti’ which Victor informs the crowd was a B-side. They give us one final beating with ‘Whose Fist Is This Anyway’ and what a way to end.
I’m gonna sound boring but I’m not a fan of live albums. This however has harnessed the energy and aggression of a band at the top of their game, and I cannot wait to see them in 2026 if they decide to come to the UK.
