A monster of ’80,s influenced rock tonight a 17 song set as the 6 piece of Toby drums, Oscar on keys, James and Harry on guitar with Kieran on bass and lastly front and centre the “Glamour Girl” Chez herself in front of the replacement “Dreadnought” due to the unfortunate cancelling of the gig which had been set for the legendary “Bannermans” in Edinburgh,s Cowgate to go ahead here.

As 9.30 chimed the heat exploded as the audience squeezed in to the “Dreadnought” for this eagerly awaited 2nd Scottish date having previously been in Scotlands second city of “Glasgow” the ’80’s throwback intro of ” Irene Cara” “Fame” exploded through the speakers .

The 6 were off and running as “Personal Rock and Roll” from the spring released “Reckless” album opened – drums crashing, guitar cords licking and the keyboard rhythm and bass were already holding the crowd with Chez already feeling the heat from this intro the guys on backing vocals giving the chorus that added edge.

What an intro “Dreadnought” how we doing was eagerly returned as both James shoeless and Harry on guitar high kicking in unison as “Too late for Love” from the debut Chez Kane album gave us the first of 6 tunes from this, Chez in denim mini jacket, fingerless gloves and booted kept the high voltage vocals going as an equally enthralling instrumental from the lads “It,s too late for Love” eh may,be not.

A triple assault opening the 3rd tune “All of It” again from the earliest album and the volume is off the scale as the backing vocals from all the guys is equal – what a power surge we have had, what a start never in a while have I heard such a searing searching vocal.

“I just want You” gave us the first of 4 songs from the 2022 “Powerzone” album “How we Doing?” was asked as Chez alluded that we were here to celebrate the new “ Reckless” album the Welsh glamstress second album song though “I just want You” with crashing drums, and both guitars lifting to another level it’s a joy to listen to all the guys delivering different vocals as the ’80’s vibe continues with a very “Robin Beck” sound oh “I’m old” what a backing rhythm Oscar on the keyboard delivers to good old rock, 20 minutes in and no stopping this juggernaut.”

“Love Tornado” and a headbanger of a song toe tapping energy to keep the crowd with another searing guitar solo with James giving it his all with long haired Harry giving a masterclass to Chez left as a high kicking Chez keeps the crowd mesmerized with her dance moves.

Next up “Powerzone” album track “Nationwide” Chez thinks she’s doing alright I’ll tell you for the crowd that’s a yes as the energy was off the scale as 80’s after 80’s feel is exuded “Bathgate are you with me” is asked – oh yeah is replied.

“Midnight Rendezvous” Oscar joins on guitars – 3 guitars what a headbanger of a tune what electricity in the room as all 3 on guitars deliver a different aspect with Chez going full throttle you can’t help but feel the energy at the front of the stage with the drum and bass rhythm pumping through I’m not kidding this is possibly one of the best gigs I’ve been at in my life crashing drums with 3 guitars just wow my ears felt like they were bleeding.

“Bodyrock” gave us the 3rd of 7 tunes from the latest album as Chez states It’s getting hot in here and the reason we are touring “Reckless” is as a 13 year old Chez influenced by Def Leppard “Pour some sugar on Me”.

“Better than Love” we go back to the early days again gives us a more melodic tune before another huge chorus envelopes us – is this gig “Better than Love” I’ll leave the “Dreadnought” audience to decide that one as the customary backing vocals and a searing guitar from James and Harry, Toby,s drums crashing with Oscar on keys keeping another rhythm with Kieran on bass the guys are on fire.

“Reckless” sees Chez on guitar for the title tracked album tune is “Bathgate feeling wild” is asked as we open with another 3 guitar assault as the energy ramps up again “Reckless” is a monster which really hits the crowd packed in tonight with another soaring chorus the “back to the future” feeling is atmospheric tonight – there can be no “sounds like looks like” this girl is dynamite in her own right.

“Night of Passion” and Chez took it up a level to the ‘hot and sexy” part of the night as she delivered the first of 5 songs as the sultry and raunchy came out with more melodic vocals and soaring guitars crashing drums and keyboards, without a breath this girl can deliver “Chez wanted it all” boy she got it.

“Strip me Down” no let up this high octane ’80’s night got hotter and hotter as Chez lost the mini denim for sunglasses??? as a throbbing guitar backing and pulsing drum, keyboard and bass was another explosion – she is the Welsh Glamour from the valley’s where these vocals come from and soar higher and higher “shoot me down” was asked eh no!!! before we were cascaded into orbit with “Love gone Wild” which

let,s the guys get a shot at high kicking as Chez leaves the stage to join the pit photographers, never have I saw a barrier in front of “Dreadnought stage” – I’ve a feeling I know why tonight.

As we near the end of the set we see no let up an hour in as a sunglassed Chez keeps a rocking vibe with another punchy anthem she reaches another vocal before a crashing instrumental from the guys is absolutely astonishing what a gig to have been privy to.

“Get it On” and a bouncing “Dreadnought” is being taught a masterclass tonight in high octane rock as we get another shredding cord burst from the guitars – what has not been to like about tonight.

“Tongue of Love” Chez sunglasses gone gives us the last of 7 songs from the latest release – James introduces the “Tongue of Love” with a cheeky tongue roll – another sultry song and ably backed on keys and vocals by the boys let rip with the chords at the front of the stage.

Penultimate tune – “Rocket on the Radio” rolls into set closer “Powerzone” what a night the last 2 rolled together what an ending “well done Alan” for saving the night thanks to Harley for his support.Toby drums, Oscar keys, Kieran bass James and Harry on guitar. Day 10 of the UK “Reckless” tour Chez raises the roof of the Dreadnought as “Rocket on the Radio” and the Dreadnought is bouncing the energy still off the scale pulsing vocals and a searing backing from the guys it’s amazing the effort tonight with a tune still to go what an end eh no.

We have “Powerzone” to close as one last head banging, toe tapper to end and Chez had delivered on night 2 of her Scottish venture never have I heard such a vocal and band as Chez ended on her knees midsong before arising to power us to the end as drums crashed, keys shredded, bass pumped and guitars bled power – at the front what a set to behold as one last lung bursting vocal was delivered “Powerzone” was reached in “Dreadnought Bathgate” tonight.

What an astonishing 90 minutes.

Chez thankyou very much for giving me the opportunity to review another gem from Wales having already rubbed shoulders with the King Kraken boys and I look forward to your return in the future.

Spread the love
