Review and Photos By Erin Greasley
Having been on my bucket list for a while I couldn’t wait when it was announced for fit for an autopsy to be playing the stylus in leeds, i knew i needed to go
Sylosis werent a band I was familiar with, id heard their name a few times but never full listen to but boy was it an experience i’ll never forgot and with their pulsating energy something i’ll want to see again! Sylosis, a melodic death metal band from Reading bring their music alive, the energy is contagious, involving the audience and amazing everyone with their heavy riffs
Their opening song “Empty Prophets”, with the intricate guitar melodie’s which are clear to be heard within the song, against the husky deep vocals and the subtle hint of keys, a new element within itself, brought an enthralling energy across the venue, with circle pits already forming and crowd surfers getting picked up i knew it was definitely going to be an interesting experience. Their heavy used of breakdowns within this song was clear that they wanted to make a statement , and the break within the guitar catches the audience too, making it clear to the audience that this is a band to be heard and to be known.
With their new EP, “The Path” which came out in October, Sylosis had tons of material both old and new which they played to their fans, capturing their attention and even having some fans signing along. Their set smoothly moved on, even to play their EP title track “The Path”, it was clear everyone enjoyed every second, with the hard drumming beats against the melodic guitar riffs filling the song it was clear that they definitely had a lot to bring in their shows.
If you enjoy your death metal alongside the beautiful sound of intricate guitar riffs then Sylosis is definitely a band for you; getting everyone joining in with their energy they put on a show you do not want to miss.

With a break for drinks in between it was time for the final act Fit For an Autopsy, although i was a big fan and listened to their music on repeat most days, especially their latest album, “The Nothing That Is” an amazing album which powers through 10 force-fuelled death metal songs mixed with an atmospheric groove blended with their theatrical guitar riffs makes their show one that you don’t want to miss.
The band has found themselves exploring moodier textures and emotions to add a new momentum and power within their songs, making it amazing for a show presence.
Starting their set with the amazing “Lower Purpose” it really set the mood for the rest of the night, filled with crashing moshers, and crowd surfers gliding over our heads everyone was loving the moment.
Moving on with their set they played some new songs from their latest album to get the crowd moving including the powerful “Red Horizon”, with its textured low-end heavy guitar riffs blasting and rocking the stage with their setlist choice it was definitely ready mixed to make sure they glided through their amazing set. The small background harmonies adding a subtle bit needed touch to add with the songs melodic flair, complimenting the bands experimentation and clearly show them branching out within their skills.
Before we knew it , the night was drawing to a close. after a thank you from the supports and the staff at the stylus it was finally time for their last two songs, kicking it off with the amazing, “Hostage” their lead single from their new album which shows their experimental contemporary crossover of metal sounds, immediately bring the audience the feeling of the power within the drums and the technical breakdowns, being so tightly written and designed, before being hit with the grungy deep vocals and the intricate clean guitar. the swift changes between clean vocals shows the complex variety and range which Joe Badolato (singer) holds, being complimented by the crushing guitar melodies and the jaw-dropping break downs.
Finally they hit the stage one last time with “two towers” a steady going song which was an amazing choice to finish the night. The beginning bringing forward the strong bass, and a mellow groove musically incorporating elements of styles and again highlighting Joe Badolato’s strong vocals before hitting off with the heavy drums and setting into a strong rhythm of heavy moving lyrics and strong crunchy guitar riffs, before being hit with their familiar death-core sound, echoing around the room into the breakdown. The new added textures within Fit for an Autopsy’/ sound following their new album is definitely a new and interesting experimentation for the band and i for one are definitely loving it, and cannot wait to see them live again.
