Joe Desglose Maddox – Bringing a Slice of Power Pop With His Solo Single

Single – Nobody’s In Love Anymore

Release Date – 24th August 2026

Review by Linda McDermott

If you’ve not heard of the Continental Lovers before, they’re a great four-piece pop punk band with a happy beat running through their music. Led by Joe Maddox and his distinctive voice, they’re a band well worth seeing. But with his new solo single, Nobody’s In Love Anymore, Joe takes things in a slightly different direction.

Released on Monday 24th August, the track sees Joe return to his power pop roots with a retro, acoustic-driven song about falling in lust while knowing it probably isn’t going to last. Produced by long-time collaborator Phil Booth, the song strips things back and lets Joe’s melody and vocals take centre stage.

The first time I put it on, my immediate thought was, yes, this has a great beat, and before I knew it, I was tapping along. There’s a great bounce to the track that carries it forward, with a twangy rhythm sitting underneath and giving it an infectious beat that’s hard not to move along to. It has a real summer feel to it; you know the sort of song that puts you in a good mood without even trying.

It’s an easy listen, but that doesn’t mean it’s forgettable. There’s a great hook running through it, and Joe’s distinctive voice is clear enough that the lyrics are easy to pick up, which is always a bonus when you find yourself joining in before you’ve even realised you’ve learnt the words.

There’s also something about the rhythm that makes me think you could probably line dance to this one if you were so inclined, I’m not, but I can visualise it. It has that lovely twang running through it, while Joe’s vocals give it a more upbeat power pop feel. It’s a combination that works really well.

What I particularly like is that while you can still hear the personality that makes Joe such a recognisable frontman, Nobody’s In Love Anymore doesn’t simply sound like a Continental Lovers song with the rest of the band missing. Instead, it gives Joe the space to show a different side to his songwriting, with the melody taking more of the lead.

What’s coming up for the band? The Continental Lovers have a short UK and European tour, starting on Wednesday 2nd September at Bannermans in Edinburgh as well as a double A side 7″ single, The Ghost of Paris Square/Well Kept in the Dirt so watch out for all of that.
