RetsecroW(s) – A Young Band With Big Ambition

Single – Follow

Release Date – 4th September 2026

Review by Linda McDermott

Formed in July 2022, Midlands-based four-piece Retsecrows, pronounced ret-see-crows, have wasted no time making their mark. Despite only being together for a few years, they’ve already played 79 gigs, building a loyal following through sheer hard work and consistently high-energy performances. Regularly playing venues across the Midlands and beyond, they’ve shared stages with established acts while continuing to develop their own material.

Their sound is clearly shaped by where they’ve come from, with the rich rock history of the Midlands playing an important part in their musical identity. Early influences such as Black Sabbath and Judas Priest have provided a solid foundation, but Retsecrows have taken those classic sounds and pushed them in their own direction. As their music has evolved, they’ve brought in more modern elements, taking cues from the likes of The Foo Fighters, Sleep Token and Linkin Park, alongside newer names such as South Arcade and The Cost. The result is a sound that feels current while still having those solid rock foundations running through it.

This single sees the band step things up another gear, showing a real maturity in their sound as they continue to establish themselves on the rock scene. It’s a cracker of a single, kicking off with Luca’s distinctive voice and a beat that immediately tells you there’s more to come. As it shifts up a gear, the vocals tell you exactly what to expect, and I was hooked from those first notes. There’s a great beat running throughout the song, and an easy-to-learn chorus that’s made for singing along to, combined with classic rock guitar solos, rhythmic drums and bass all coming together to make this a winner.

Having played Follow live for the past 18 months, the band have had plenty of time to see how audiences respond to it. I had the chance to hear it when they played Call of the Wild in May, and even though I was standing on the sidelines working at the festival, it caught my attention. Retsecrows are a great live band, and I really enjoyed their whole set, but Follow was one of those songs that stayed with me. It got a great response from the crowd too, even though it was new to them, they responded with loud cheers showing that it had made a great impression. After 18 months of honing it in front of live audiences, Follow feels like a song the band have really made their own.

If you don’t know the band, you would never guess just how young they are from the music they are producing. All under eighteen, yes, four teenagers who have already accomplished what others struggle with through their sheer determination. It isn’t just their age that is surprising, but the drive they have for what they’re doing and the way they deliver it. Taking inspiration from These Wicked Rivers, they even have a stage set that is growing along with them, in the shape of a multitude of plants! They also have a strong focus on making a difference away from the music. At Call of the Wild in May, they ensured their performance was carbon neutral and gave away 50 saplings under the name RetseGrow.

Luca says, “We’re only a few days away now and it’s honestly starting to feel real! We’ve played Follow live for 18 months, so we’ve had so much time to see how people react to it. Now we’re finally getting to release it properly, and we’ve got some seriously exciting things planned around it. We’re keeping one big surprise under wraps for now, but we promise it’ll be worth the wait!”

Retsecrows may still be in the early stages of their career, but there’s already a confidence and musical ability here that suggests they have plenty more to offer. With their determination, high-energy live performances and a sound that continues to develop, I can see them heading further and further up the bill at rock festivals in the next few years. Retsecrows are certainly a young band worth keeping an eye on.
