Power metal found a new group of champions in 2024 when Alterium debuted on AFM Records with Of War and Flames. The band is comprised of former Kalidia members Nicoletta Rosellini (vocals), Paolo Campitelli (guitars) and Dario Gozzi (drums) from who are joined in Alterium by Alessandro Mammola (guitars, also in Draconicon) and Luca Scalabrin (bass, also in Altair).
Rosellini is firmly placed front and center of the quintet, as said in this interview with Jace Media Music Contributor Justin Smulison that Alterium provides her with the opportunity to contribute lyrical and thematic ideas. This creative dynamic has proved effective, as Rosellini’s voice – melodies – enchant, haunt, lull while lyrics explore tales of battle, strife and biblical and mythology.
Produced by Lars Rettkowitz (Freedom Call), Of War and Flames features nine original power metal tracks plus an epic cover of Sabaton’s “Bismarck.” This all results in a well-strategized triumph of catchy choruses, terrific vocal lines, powerful sounds, strong guitar riffs, explosive drums, majestic choirs and captivating grooves
.
The feedback from fans and audiences has been overwhelmingly positive, with a combined nearly 1 million YouTube views of four of the album’s singles. This led to the release of Alterium’s punchy new single, “Hear My Voice,” which was recorded during the Of War sessions.
Rosellini joined Smulison to discuss the surprising success of Of War And Flames, and how “Hear My Voice” is both an artistic mission statement and a way to communicate and engage with fans following the LP’s release. They also discuss the excitement ahead of Alterium’s appearance at the Brainstorm Festival in the Netherlands on Nov 2.
