Gypsy Pistoleros – Dark Faerie Tales single review

I fell in love with Gypsy Pistoleros when I saw them at Dementia Fest in Wolverhampton a few years ago. High energy, crowd pleasing and genuinely original, they delivered a great set that night and created a fan for life in me that very evening. Since that day they have come on leaps and bounds, culminating in the excellent album ‘Church Of The Pistoleros’ in 2025

Working with producer extraordinaire Dave Draper was a wise choice, and he has really allowed the band to expand their horizons and express themselves. This band have worked so hard over the last few years, constantly refining both their sonic and visual style and touring incessantly to hone their craft, and it’s really paid off for them.

This brings us to their new single, the title track from their forthcoming album ‘Dark Faerie Tales’. It’s darker than anything they’ve previously released which bodes well for the new album. It still contains the bands trademark energy and it’s as immediate as anything they’ve ever released, but it feels more thoughtful, more measured and strikes me as being produced by a band who are reaching the peak of their powers. Gypsy Lee Pistolero is one of the most interesting and storied individuals plying their trade in the current Rock scene, and to paraphrase his own words he’s a diamond geezer in the flesh so I’m so pleased to see his band receiving the recognition they deserve. Kerry Pistolero White has such joie de vivre in everything she does, and Shane Pistolero Sparkz is a guitarist of the highest quality. New boy Chris Pistolero Hopton has a great reputation and Lee speaks highly of him so I wait with baited breath to see what he brings to the band.

In conclusion, this is a great song and it does nothing to diminish my desire to get my hands on the full album, which for me is one of my most anticipated of the year. The band will be out on tour from April so if you can you must get out and see them, you won’t be disappointed.
