2024: Raging out of Portland, Oregon, comes Stainless, who officially started in 2022, with the members having been in bands throughout the Northwest US metal underground. They released an EP in 2024 and this is their first full album.

Oh, you will know the riff to the opener ‘Restless An’ Ready’ (no clues!), but that doesn’t detract from the power of the track, which rattles along on a bouncy groove. Singer Larissa Cavacece has a voice much like Wendy O’Williams – not surprising, as she used to sing in a Plasmatics tribute act. Here, she lets loose and has a voice perfectly suited to the music. ‘Whorefrost’ goes proper metal and increases the pace before the Hendrix intro to ‘(Don’t Cross Me) Fool’ develops into another metal banger. The title track chugs along with Cavacece telling us about herself. Guitarist Jamie Ly Byrum shows us his dexterity on the intro to ‘Danger In The Night’, then he shows his gift of the riff as they get going on a proper slab of molten metal. You’ll be singing the chorus for days; it’s that catchy. Stainless gets the blues on ‘Take A Listen Mama’, with Cavacece coming on very sultry and showing another side of her voice. ‘Vitamin Tease’ is a bit of NWOBHM with added sleaze before ‘Rough Justice’ offers up another familiar riff, but again it’s in the place.
This will be an acquired taste for some. Just enjoy the riffs for what they are and rejoice in the rest. Cavacece offers some grit and sleaze to the songs, and Byrum knows his way around a fretboard alright, plus the rhythm section locks in superbly. There’s nothing not to like on this. It’s a bit different, and I like different, but it doesn’t stray too far away from traditional heavy rock. Try it; you might like it
