Tyketto Turn The Garage Into A Hard Rock Cathedral

Live at The Garage, Glasgow

There are some bands that simply age like fine wine, and then there are those rare few who seem to defy time altogether. Tyketto fall firmly into that latter category. Rolling into Glasgow’s iconic Garage on the back of their brand-new release Closer To The Sun, the New York hard rockers deliver a performance that is not only electrifying but flawlessly put together from start to finish.

Formed in 1987 by former Waysted frontman Danny Vaughn, Tyketto have long been a staple of the melodic hard rock and AOR scene. With a catalogue that includes classics like Don’t Come Easy and the timeless anthem “Forever Young”, they’ve built a legacy that continues to resonate decades later. Tonight, however, isn’t about resting on past glories—it’s about proving they’re still operating at the very top of their game.

The Garage is absolutely rammed, a sea of eager faces packed wall to wall, all ready to welcome the band back with open arms. As the lights dim and the intro fades, the band stride onstage to a hero’s reception, instantly launching into “Rescue Me”. It’s a statement opener—tight, punchy, and delivered with intent.

Without missing a beat, “Wings” keeps the momentum surging, and from this point on, the show flows with a precision that highlights just how well constructed the entire set is. There’s a real sense of thought behind the pacing—high-energy anthems interwoven with melodic moments, each track placed perfectly to keep the crowd fully engaged.

At the centre of it all is Danny Vaughn, whose voice remains nothing short of phenomenal. Silky smooth, powerful, and emotionally rich, he commands the room with ease. Tracks like “Burning Down Inside” and “Higher Than High” showcase his range, while his connection with the audience brings an added layer of intimacy to the performance.

A brief pause allows Vaughn to share his love for Glasgow, describing it as one of the loudest and most passionate crowds on the circuit—and judging by the roar that follows, he’s absolutely spot on. The band roll straight into “Strength In Numbers” and “Reach”, before unleashing the title track “Closer To The Sun”, which sounds even more vibrant and powerful in the live setting.

One of the standout aspects of the night is just how seamless everything feels. This is a band that knows exactly what they’re doing. From the transitions between songs to the balance of old and new material, the show is crafted with care and delivered with confidence.

The middle section of the set is a masterclass in crowd engagement. “The Run” and “We Rise” inject fresh energy, while “Circle The Wagons” brings a huge singalong moment that has the entire venue bouncing. “Seasons” follows with a more reflective tone before the band introduce newer material like “Harleys & Indians (Riders In The Sky)”, proving that their songwriting still packs a serious punch.

As the night builds towards its climax, “Standing Alone” and “Lay Your Body Down” keep the energy levels high, before a real treat in the form of “The Brave”, a track not featured on the vinyl release, giving fans something extra special.

The band briefly leave the stage to thunderous applause, but there’s only ever going to be one way to close a night like this. Returning to deliver “Forever Young”, the Garage erupts into one unified voice, singing every word back with passion and pride.

Backing Vaughn is a phenomenal lineup. Harry Scott Elliott’s guitar work is sharp and dynamic, Chris Childs provides a rock-solid low end, Ged Rylands adds rich layers on keys, and Johnny D keeps everything locked in with precision drumming.

What truly sets this show apart is just how well it’s put together. Every element—from the setlist to the performance to the interaction—feels deliberate and polished, yet never loses that raw, live energy.

Tyketto didn’t just play The Garage tonight—they owned it. A stunning performance from a band who continue to prove they are still very much a force to be reckoned with.
