Founded in Leeds as the brainchild of Michael Cable (formerly of Perspex), newcomers Vehicle are doling out bejangled garage-rock flavours. Clashing a flair for acerbic irony and kitchen-sink storytelling alongside a passion for 1960s Pebbles/Nuggets compilations and British Invasion pop, if Marcel Duchamp once said, “Expect all good to come from an urge to wander out ready to meet anything,” then you’ll find Vehicle are playing all night long, somewhere in-between the urge and the wandering.

Proudly announcing themselves for 2026, new single ‘You Are Not A Cowboy’ – out 23rd January via Esco Romanesco – offers a blast of guitar-pop nostalgia, couching the rock ‘n’ roll revivalisms of The Black Lips or early Fat White Family inside a playful taunt against the cultural paradigms of the present. A limited edition 7” vinyl run of the single has already sold out ahead of its official digital release.

Explaining more, Michael himself says, “At just under three minutes, this is a hook-infused piece of rock & roll that brings Mark E Smith in from the rain to front mid-60s Stones. The narrator is an insular country fanatic casting suspicion on the rising trend of Americana in alternative rock.”

The release follows last summer’s debut collection, ‘Widespread Vehicle’, and a host of nationwide tour dates alongside the likes of Van Houten, FEET, The Paris Match, The Cindys, Holiday Ghosts, The Tubs and Whitney K.  Early press/radio support has also come from NTS, Emily Pilbeam (BBC 6 Music Introducing Mixtape) and Far Out Magazine.

Vehicle celebrate ‘You Are Not A Cowboy’ with a clutch of tour dates across the UK in celebration of Independent Venue Week at the end of January, alongside labelmates Neve Cariad and Elwell (full details below).
